How to turn your foot pain into a happy dance

Happy feet, happy life.

This statement may seem like an oversimplification of life’s ups and downs, trials and celebrations, but there’s a healthy measure of truth to it, as well.

Think about it – able-bodied individuals spend so much of their day-to-day lives on their feet. Your feet are the first point of contact with the ground beneath you when you get up in the morning. They’re the tools your body uses to get from point A to point B, and your support system while you’re waiting in line at the store. During life’s finest moments, you use your feet to dance in joy and stand tall when cheering others along. And after a busy day, you “put your feet up” to relax and let all that built-up wear and tear slowly float away.

When you’re living with foot pain, your whole body feels it. Every step sends shudders of stress up through your body, culminating in a perpetual frown. The continual agony can turn simple tasks into a chore, even compel you to avoid going out at all unless necessary.

Add some spring back to your step with Medi Footsupport Heel Pain Pro

If you have been suffering from foot pain, we might have the perfect solution at Kootenay Columbia Home Medical Equipment (KCHME). For a number of years, we have been offering a line of foot orthotics – the Medi Footsupport Heel Pain Pro – that has proven to be highly successful with our customers in relieving pain and pressure issues originating from the heel area and along the sole of the foot. So successful, in fact, that KCHME is now the biggest seller of this Medi product line across British Columbia.

The Footsupport Heel Pain Pro has been designed and developed by Medi, a global manufacturer of medical products focused on innovative care concepts in compression, braces, orthoses and more. Headquartered in Bayreuth, Germany, Medi has been supplying quality care products for over 70 years, produced to an exceptionally high level of comfort and quality.

Medi’s Heel Pain Pro provides advanced, targeted soft cushioning along the heel area and sole, and provides a multi-layered orthotic shell to support the (medial longitudinal) foot arch. The unique design also includes a small pad beneath the midfoot to support the transverse foot arch. The product has been specially designed to effectively relieve heel pain, heel spurs and plantar fasciitis.

“What makes Medi’s Heel Pain Pro stand out is the support ball that has been designed into the centre just behind the ball of the foot, relieving pressure on the heel plantar muscle,” explains Terri Huppie, Territory Manager with Medi Canada. “This is the muscle that hurts people when it’s extended; when you sleep at night you don’t activate this muscle, so you feel pain when you get out of bed. Our foot support massages the plantar muscle during the day and increases circulation, ensuring it doesn’t cramp at night while providing greater comfort throughout the day.

“Some orthotics offer reasonable support for the plantar muscle, but Medi’s design is more aggressive and has proven to be quite successful for those suffering with plantar fasciitis. There is also a soft area at the heel for additional shock absorption, and it features a more anatomically accurate shape compared to similar off-the-shelf products.”

How do I know if I have plantar fasciitis?

If you feel a stabbing pain in your heel when you get out of bed in the morning, or when you get back on your feet after having been seated for a while, this pain could be a sign you have plantar fasciitis. This discomfort may improve with some light walking, but will get worse again after prolonged standing, walking or exercise. Plantar fasciitis develops when the band of tissue under your foot, called the plantar fascia, becomes irritated or strained. If you think you may have plantar fasciitis, visit us in-store at either our Castlegar or Cranbrook location and we can see if the Medi Heel Pain Pro offers you the relief you need. To officially diagnose plantar fasciitis, however, you will need to see your family doctor.

“When a client experiencing foot pain visits our store, one of our Medi-trained orthotic experts can ask the client about their symptoms and provide them with a fitting,” explains KCHME’s Sally Kolbeck. “The client can then try the support in their shoe in-store, and we can make minor modifications to the orthotic if necessary to ensure optimal fit and function.

“I actually wear the Medi Heel Pain Pro foot supports, myself,” adds Sally. “I was introduced to them a few years ago when Terri came to our store for a training session. I tried them out, felt some relief right away, and over the next few days noticed that I was not getting any foot cramping at night or waking up in pain. Plain and simple, they work!”
